Disconnect or pause a bank feed
Understand the exact scope of pausing versus disconnecting, and what happens to posted and unposted rows.
Choose The Smaller Action First
Pausing stops new activity from arriving. Disconnecting removes the Plaid connection for every account it covers.
Open the company, select Bank Feeds, and open the account card's menu.
- Pause import stops new transactions arriving for that account while keeping the connection. Use it for a dormant account or during a migration. Resume import turns it back on.
- Change register re-points the feed at a different chart account.
- Disconnect bank feed removes the Plaid connection.
Read The Disconnect Confirmation
Disconnecting is not per-account, and the confirmation says exactly what it does:
Disconnect First National? This removes the Plaid connection for 3 accounts, stops Plaid access and future syncing, clears unposted feed-review rows, and keeps posted ledger history.
Check the account count before confirming. If it is higher than expected, that institution has more accounts connected than the one you were looking at.
Unposted review rows are cleared with the connection. Post or exclude anything you want kept before you disconnect.
What Survives
- Posted activity stays. Journal entries already in the ledger are accounting records and are not removed.
- Completed reconciliations are unaffected.
- Unposted review rows are gone.
Reconnect Later
Use Connect bank. Plaid treats it as a new connection, so you map the returned accounts again — point each at its existing register rather than creating a duplicate. See Connect a bank or credit card.
Watch for overlapping dates afterwards. Compare the first synced dates against what is already posted before coding anything.
If You Disconnected By Mistake
Create a support ticket with the company, institution, and the date range of the lost unposted rows. Do not recreate them as manual journal entries — reconnecting and re-syncing is the supported recovery.
Reconnect a bank that needs attention
Restore a Plaid connection yourself when the automatic outreach has not worked, then confirm activity resumed.
Import bank activity from a CSV
Use CSV import as the fallback for institutions Plaid does not cover, and set a starting point so the register is right from day one.
