Track classes and report profit by class
Tag income and expense lines by location, department, or property, allocate shared costs, and review Profit & Loss by Class.
Create Classes
Select the company and open Settings > Classes. Choose Add class and enter a code and name. Use a parent class when you want subclasses for a department, location, or property group. Edit class details inline.
Class tagging is optional. Untagged income and expense lines appear as Unassigned. Classes already used on transactions, rules, or allocations cannot be deleted; make them inactive to preserve history.
Tag Or Allocate Activity
Use the class selector on supported Bank Feeds, Fast Coding, rules, and journal-entry lines. Classes describe income and expense activity; they do not tag balance-sheet lines or replace the accounting account.
For shared costs, create an Allocation template in Classes. Choose at least two classes and percentages totaling 100%, then Save allocation. Use a supported allocation selector when coding the shared amount. Review both the category and the class split before posting.
Read The Income Statement By Class
Open Reports > Income Statement and choose Class in the report column controls. Confirm the dates and Cash or Accrual basis. Use All classes or a single class; Roll up subclasses combines child classes under their parents when available.
Review Unassigned activity instead of assuming it belongs to a class. Open the review badge or a supported amount to see its posted lines. Select the lines, choose the intended class, and use Set class. This changes the class tag while leaving amounts and accounts intact; protected closed fiscal years still apply.
The same Income Statement also offers total, monthly, and quarterly columns. Use supported PDF or spreadsheet export after checking the selected view. See Reports for posted-ledger and accounting-basis scope.
Consolidated financials for a group of companies
Combine two or three companies' Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet side by side, eliminate intercompany accounts, and print the consolidated statements.
Prepare and send monthly financial reviews
Review a company's monthly packet, choose its presentation, and send it to an owner or tax preparer.
